Kanban and Whiteboard to Track Agile Projects

Whenever I first introduce a team to Agile development, I start with a physical board and cards to track and plan iterations. Engineers not familiar with the process often see this as a very archaic practice and sometime deride it. They miss the point entirely. This is the best way for the team to figure out how to interact with each other and get a sense of how the process is going to work. This allows everyone to focus on the task at hand versus getting lost in the distraction and complexity of a software tool. There is something intangible and satisfying about handling physical objects and interacting with them.

I was pleased to learn that the team at Vodafone (formely Zyb) that recently launched the version 2.0 of their 360.com service has been using Agile development for a while.

They've published a time lapse video of their Kanban that tracks progress from start to finish.

It's great to see that such a nimble development process can exist in a large carrier organization.
