Bread Crumbs

I wrote this component for NetObject Fusion in early 1999. It was loosely inspired from an example in their CDK and was my first foray into Java programming. A lot has happened since, among things how I’ve grown disenchanted with NOF. I’ve been a big proponent of their web creation tool and used it since version 1.0, all the way up to 7.0. Part of my disappointment is how quickly they drop support for the Mac, the fact that their stock (which I own) is worthless and that overall, it’s a bad idea to have your web site stored into a proprietary database format. I now favor more “open” tools such as DreamWeaver, or a good old text editor that deals directly with html files.

Despite NOF shortcoming, it seems that quite a few people had downloaded and used this component. I’ve decided to be a good Internet citizen and resurrected it.

Description

This component allows you to automatically generate a navigation bar that represents the hierarchical position of the page you are currently on. It was originally named “CoolNavBar”, but I changed it to “Crumbs” to be more descriptive, as this kind of navigation is often time refereed to as “Bread Crumbs” (I assume after “Le Petit Poucet“). It is made available under a BSD style license.

Installation

  1. Download the self-extractable component.
  2. Double click to extract its content into your NOF components directory. For instance: C:\NetObjects Fusion 7.0\Components
  3. Start the NetObjects program. Right click on the left side toolbar. Select “Component Tools->auberger.com nof components”. You can now click this icon to access the component and place it on your page.

Thanks a lot! This component saved my life … actually it saved my project ;). And it DOES work with NOF8, simply put it one folder below ;)
    Like that:
    NOF8
    —Components
    -NetObjects

Hi, i use NOF 8 and also i use the breadcrump component. vewrry nice, i like it. now i only have on problem - in the oprions, i have to make the choice, which colour is iused fpr the font. but this only means the site-names.
The text, i can change “you are here:” is black.

is there a chance, to change the colour? without manual taking the html-code?

it would be very nice, if you can help me with an answer.

thank you and with best regards
    frank
