Best Buddies Challenge Training Update - Week 1

This is the first installment of my weekly training update in preparation of the Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle 100-mile ride. I’m finishing the week with a total of 70 miles (112 km) and 6118 feet (1865 m) of elevation gain. Not bad, but I need to crank it up a bit. Last week was actually somewhat better. Call it training week 0, I ended up covering 79 miles (127 km) and 7315 feet (2230 m) thanks to a nice jaunt to Page Mill road from skyline last Sunday.

The week-end routine ride usually starts with a climb Old La Honda. Urban legend has it that you’re suppose to climb it in half your age. My best time so far is 24 minutes, so I’ll either need to get faster or wait to grow older. For more details about the climb, check out this blog.

Speaking of climb, I’m hoping to benefit from my commute ride that includes a nice 16% straight up road for about 1 mile. Steep, steep, steep.
